Navin Doshi still remembers walking with Mahatma Gandhi when he was nine years old visiting Mahabaleshver with his family. Navin came to the United States after completing his studies at the Puna Engineering College and L.D. engineering college, Ahmadabad, where he received Bachelor of Engineering degree. He completed his Masters in Engineering (1958) at Michigan's Anne Arbor University and a second Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering. He worked as an engineer for several companies in the aerospace field, including TRW. During his career as an engineer he was the recipient of NASA awards and patents. An active trader and a writer on financial markets, Navin is a director in few corporations.
In the 1998 Navin and his wife, Pratima endowed the Doshi Chair at UCLA's Department of History, and he is active as a fund raiser and consultant on numerous projects that particularly deal with Indian culture, history, and political science. The Doshis are the founding members and one of the largest contributors for the establishment of the prestigious Sardar Patel Award at UCLA for exceptional doctoral dissertations in the field of Indian culture and history. He has been a sponsor of visiting professors teaching eastern religions at Loyola Mari Mount University (LMU). He has been serving as a member of Advisory Board of LMU for many years. The Doshis endowed a Professorship at LMU in 2006 teaching eastern religion and yoga and interacts with Universities in India. Professor Chris Chapple, author of many books and a scholar of eastern traditions, is the first holder of Doshi professorship. Navin Doshi has written many articles in Indian news papers about investment and philosophy, and a book titled " Saving us from Ourselves" available at Amazon.com and is endorsed by Rajmohan Gandhi and others.
